Background Analysis Musashi was born in the Kensei province of the Kawa region within Hi no Kuni. His father, Gōryū, was the Kawa Daimyō's most trusted retainer and his mother played the typical samurai housewife, taking care of his father's estate in the Kensei province. His father was a busy man, for the Kawa Daimyō had entrusted Gōryū to the training of his soldiers, and the leading of his generals in the Daimyō's absence. Being on the boarder of Kaze no Kuni and Hi no Kuni, the Kawa region was a constant battlefield between the two countries, and the men of the region the only thing that stood between the inner forests of Hi no Kuni and thte blades of the desert warriors.
In fact, they fought so hard and often that some questioned why the Daimyō didn't simply break away from Hi no Kuni, and many were tired of seeing the red armor of Fire Country warriors. It was this tension that brought about the end of Musashi's parents, and his estate, though in a way none would truly connect. Many nobles of the central regions that Hi no Kuni was composed of saw the strength of the Kawa army, and felt that separation from the nation was too much of a threat so long as the man renowned as the greatest warrior in the land of fire stood on the side of the Kawa ruler.
A peasant woman who had no affiliation with Musashi's family, or even the Kensei province, was brought before the Kawa's lord heavy with child. The woman claimed that Gōryū had, while on a training expedition along the boarder of the Kawa region, abducted, raped, and then left her. While, at first, this accusation held no merit, a spy for the inland nobles had become a soldier under Gōryū's command and stood up to supplement the arguement, claimign to have seen their leader sneak away from the camp one night. When no other soldiers could refute this arguement -- For they had been busy with their training and maintaining the camp to keep tabs on their leader, whom they had never thought to question -- Gōryū was, sadly, put to death for the violation of a free woman's rights. With this shame, came the liquidation of all of his estates, and shortly thereafter Musashi's mother committed seppuku with her late husband's blade.
This left Musashi, at the age of thirteen, to fend for himself in a world that had taken from him his parents. Adopting the surname 'Miyamoto', as opposed to the former 'Shinmen' by which his father had been known, Musashi entered into the Kawa lord's army and trained himself in the blade. One year later, he challenged a reputedly powerful samurai that was visiting the Kawa region to a duel and bested him, starting his own path down the road his father had proudly walked. Since that first victory, Musashi has carried with him the title of 'Undefeated', for even now as one of the personal retainers of the current Kawa Daimyō he remains with no losses in single combat against any warrior who has challenged him.

Inventory Onigiri [Ogre Cutter] Musashi's katana, which is sheathed on his left hip to be drawn by his right hand. Blessed in one of Kawa's shinto shrines by a priest loyal to the Tanigawa, the clan to whom the current Kawa Daimyō belongs, this blade is often seen with ceremonial beads entwined with the circular tsuba, granting it divine grace. Some say it is the touch of the gods that gives Musashi his skill, while in fact the beads are only for appearance. It is an abnormally durable blade, but that is all.
Kamikaze [Heavenly Wind] Musashi's wakizashi, which is sheathed on his right hip to be drawn by his left hand. Unlike the Onigiri, it isn't blessed and has no special history or rumor about it. It, too, is an abnormally durable blade, with no other special properties.
